A question for ya!

If my daughter is doing a class project wherein she has to present an award to someone who has done great things (and this person can be someone she knows, or from history, whatever), if she chooses me to be the recipient, am I allowed to help her with said project?

Do I toot my own horn and tell her all the good things I have done for mankind, the cures I have created for diseases, the inventions I have ....er... invented.... that will save the world in the 22nd Century, or do I let her go ahead with what she has already written down, that being "My mom goes grocery shopping when we have no food left in the house and when she isn't shopping, she blogs"?

You tell me!

Obviously, this is supposed to be a learning experience for your daughter. Volunteering information is hardly conducive to that ultimate goal. That said, it would appear that you believe that she should do a better job on this project and as the mom it's also your job to make sure she puts in the requisite effort on her assignments. It seems to me that there is a middle ground here. As long as she is doing the work and not you, there should be no problem. The trick here is walking that fine line.

Perhaps you could ask her what she would have had to do if she had chosen a figure from history. Presumably, she would then tell you all of the book research she would have done to finish the assignment. You could then suggest that she should do the same amount of research when using you as a subject - only the type of research would consist of interviews with your friends, family and, of course, the ultimate resource, yourself. As long as she prepares the questions and does the interviews, I see no conflict between your two goals.

Once when we were making Mother's Day presents in my eldest Kindergarten class the kids had to say something about their mums and the teachers/helpers would write it in a card for them. We had things like "my Mum likes to cook, she makes the best pizza", & "my mum makes all my clothes" to things like "my mum likes to spend all her money at the shops" and the cracker- "my mum likes to shower with my dad"!!!!

That mum was pretty proud of her little boy!

Whats wrong with just shopping and blogging?? I'm sure she'd find more to say than that. Like......She bought me a CD player and NO CDs, but then went all the way to England for some for me! Now that deserves an award Haha!!

Hey - who could be more important in her history than her mum - of course she should be doing it on you and if she needs your help of course you should be giving it.

My little un is only 3, but if she ever wants to write a report about me in history - fantastic! Then again my ego could create a solar eclipse already.

If we just for second ignore the very sane advicce from spacelawyer I would say : go girl! It is only a matter of time before your daughter will be all grown up and disillusionised (sp?) so this might be your last chance to really glow in her idealised world. Tell her you invented popcorn! If nothing else, just for the fun of it :)
